Water Cycle Mini-Project...

Activity—The Water Cycle

Purpose:  To show that the driving force of weather is the water cycle.  We will be showing this through drawings & writing.

1)         Define the following on a separate piece of paper:

Evaporation, condensation, run-off, precipitation, transpiration, percolation, infiltration & ground water

2)         Draw a poster of the water cycle, including a rain shadow.  Be sure to include & label the following:

Evaporation, condensation, run-off, precipitation, transpiration, percolation, infiltration & ground water

3)         Answer the following questions in complete sentences:

a)          Where does the ground water come from?

b)          What would happen if someone pours chemicals on the ground?  How would this affect the ground water?

c)          What would happen to our water supplies if there was too much pollution & smog in our atmosphere?

d)          Describe the process of transpiration.

e)          Farmers sometimes use pesticides on their crops.  Describe how pesticides could get into lakes, streams & the ground water.  What would happen to our water supplies if this happened?

f)           What is a rain shadow?  Why do they exist?
